July Scene Study Intensives + Actor Highlights & Must-Watch Picks!

Hello!

I’m so happy Spring is almost here!  The two current classes are full of actors old and young, new and returning to this process.

4-DAY ADVANCED SCENE STUDY IN JULY

Promotional poster for a 4-day advanced scene study workshop at Miriam Laurence Studio featuring details about the workshops, including dates, times, and pricing.

You all know that in class, working on short scenes is part of the process.  It’s so important for actors to work on longer theatre scenes too.  Most of the stellar actors have training in intensive scene study and have worked in theatre.  It only adds to on-camera skills.  The very best (like Cate Blanchett) can modulate their performance to the genre in all mediums.  There used to be many classes only devoted to this kind of scene study in Toronto.  Now there are very few, if any.

So, as a change, I am offering two 4-day Scene Study Intensives in July for actors who have been with me for some time or have comparable training.  It’s a chance for actors to work in-depth on even more challenging, longer scenes.

Dates:
Workshop 1:
Saturday, July 12 – Tuesday, July 15; 12:30 – 5:30. $400+HST

Workshop 2:
SaturdayJuly 26 – Tuesday July 29th.  12:30 – 5:30. $400+HST

Let me know if you’re interested!

Voice Classes and Alexander Technique

Voice classes and Alexander Technique are essential for any actor’s training. Here are two local teachers to look into.

DAVID FEEHAN

I love hearing from actors who trained with me!  Recently I heard from David Feehan who was in class just before Covid.

David decided to return to Calgary soon after.  He’s continued to act and added writing and directing.

He sounds busy!  He recently wrote and starred in a short form comedy series called “Department of Paranormal Affairs”

He’s been featured in small roles in a couple of feature films coming out this year, “Shadow of God” and “This Too Shall Pass,”.  He has producer mentor and was a Production Coordinator on a feature in the fall, and is now working on a couple of other projects that he will likely be attached to as a producer.

Finally, David directed and starred in a short comedy – CAPTCHA – which I watched.  It’s so well done and very funny!

INSPIRATIONS

An interior view of a rehearsal space with actors seated and engaged in a scene study workshop. The room features wooden beams, windows, and black drapes, creating a cozy atmosphere.

I am inspired by all the actors who put in the work to progress their craft in class and apply the work to their experiences outside of class!
