Sera-Lys McArthur in Angela’s Shadow and a Podcast Interview with Sharon Chatten

Hi All!

Hope October’s going well for you!

News

I had the privilege of coaching Sera-Lys McArthur & her co-lead Matthew Kevin Anderson in Jules Koostachin’s film, Angela’s Shadow! I’m delighted that it had its premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival! It will be screening in Toronto in the near future.

Inspirations

I happened upon renowned coach Sharon Chatten’s website last month.  Here’s a link to a podcast interview she did. It was very validating to hear her take on the Method; which is very similar to mine!

Viewing Suggestions

Past Lives is a delicate, romantic heartbreak of a film. Really well acted and well-shot!

If you want to laugh with delight, watch Bad Monkey!  It is so well-acted, written and directed.  I couldn’t wait till the next episode!

And definitely watch the equally well-written, directed and edited Fight Night! Kevin Hart stars in an excellent dramatic role. And Don Cheadle, Samuel L. Jackson, and Taraji P. Henson are outstanding!

ABCs of Acting

7 | Always Be Committing Part 2:

We need work to free and align the instrument by constantly breaking out of patterns. One way to do this is to create a sacred time to work on the craft. Morning is best. And yes, if we have a day job and have to be somewhere at 9 AM, we wake up at 6 AM as part of this commitment. Sit quietly and contemplate the first cup of tea or coffee through the senses. Count blessings, and recognize personality glitches and flaws. Connect with today – spiritually, emotionally and physically. Stretch the instrument – vocal and physical. Put together a routine of exercises from classes: breath work, acting, voice, yoga, martial arts, pilates classes and reading and learning scripts. This commitment opens us up and makes us emotionally present when required. When actors create a ritual and follow it daily, they are always ready to audition and work.
