Miriam Laurence Studio | Acting Classes Toronto

Acting Updates, Inspiration & 2026 Class Registration Now Open!

I hope you are having a good October!  Classes are going well, and some actors who aren’t in class right now are taking advantage of my free-audit offer (for actors who have been in class).  I always spend time auditing and I always gain knowledge as it allows me to watch and think about the work with more detachment.

A group of actors engaged in a rehearsal, with one actor sitting on a couch and two others observing from the front, one of whom is gesturing as they provide feedback.

Meanwhile, I am busy working on a few projects, coaching actors – for auditions (for theatre and film) as well as for an Indie feature my friend and co-producer, Sera-Lys McArthur; the young lead cast are so open to the work and are bringing all that we’ve discovered to the set daily.  It’s very satisfying!

The 2026 Winter class dates have been posted; be in touch if you’re thinking of joining, as classes have been filling up fast and surprisingly early.

ACTOR NEWS

Recently Sam Sferrazza’s stand-up show was featured and taped at Second City!

Others in class have been booking commercials and roles on television and film projects.

INSPIRATION

You may remember how I insist that when you’re working on a character you broaden your identification with them by saying ‘I’.  This clip, where David Corenswet and James Gunn interact about a pivotal moment the Superman is a wonderful example of that practice!

Old Films You Need to Watch

REAR WINDOW

Recently I saw Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. What a masterpiece! The acting is a bit old-fashioned, but the set, concept and filming are so brilliant! So are Grace Kelly’s costumes!

Other Recommendations

Peacemaker

I never knew anything about James Gun before, but now I admire his writing and directing in Peacemaker (enjoyable ensemble work), and, to a lesser extent, Superman.

28 Years Later

Brilliant and creepy and it’s so interesting to watch Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes in this genre. I can’t wait to see the next installment of this film series.

Life of Chuck

A beautiful film from 2024 with a surprisingly deep performance by Mark Hamill and a dance sequence that’s outstanding, inspirational and uplifting!  Watch and enjoy!!!

Tom Hiddleston and Annalise Basso rehearsed for 50 days to perfect their dance sequence in THE LIFE OF CHUCK.
This is their journey.
